1 jar hoisin sauce
1 tbl. five-spice powder
3 tsp. tomato/beet dye
3 tbl. ginger wine
4 tbl. corn syrup or honey
6 tbl. dark soy sauce
1 tsp. garlic flakes, chopped, or garlic powder
Recipe should be made using the whole can of hoisin sauce which will store indefinitely in refrigerator.
NOTE
Garlic oil is not in the marinade. It is always kept separate, cut and basted on during last minutes of cooking.
