1/2 lb. top round beef steak cut into 1" strips

2 scallions cut into 1"pieces
1 c. Taiwan straw mushrooms or 8 dr. blk. mushrooms
3/4 c. broth (and 1 tbl. chef chow sauce optional)

POWDER MIX:

1 tbl. 5 spice powder
1 star anise chopped fine
2 tbl. ginger-garlic mix
1/2 tsp. powdered chili peppers

MARINADE:

3 tbl. dark soy
3 tbl. garlic oil
2 tbl. ginger-garlic mix
  1. Cut up beef and marinate 15 minutes. (If deep frying add 2 tbl. corn starch to marinade.)
  2. Assemble powders, broth and sauce. Set aside.
  3. If using blk. mushrooms, soak till soft, julienne and discard stems.
  4. Drain beef, save marinade juice and add to broth mix.
  5. Fry beef, add powdered mix. Mix well. Add 2 tbl. broth to prevent sticking.
  6. Add scallions and mushrooms. Mix well. Cover 1 minute then add broth mix. Cover 1 minute. Thicken if necessary. Serve.
